Valsartan Lawsuit Overview

The companies involved include Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. The specific drugs that have been recalled are listed at Valsartan Recall.

The contamination is being attributed to the facility’s manufacturing process dating back to 2012, according to a notice by the European Medicines Agency. The FDA told Drugwatch, “The amount of the impurity varies in the firm’s (active pharmaceutical ingredient) batches, but we believe some levels of the impurity may have been in the valsartan-containing products for as long as four years.”

Medical Issues and Side Effects caused by Valsartan

Short-term dosage to NDMA may cause liver damage (such as liver fibrosis and scarring). Long-term exposure can increase the risk of tumors in the liver, kidney, and lungs.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), NDMA is not currently produced in pure form or commercially used in the United States, except for research purposes.

It was formerly used in production of liquid rocket fuel, antioxidants, additives for lubricants, and softeners for copolymers.

Symptoms of NDMA overexposure include headaches; fever; nausea; jaundice; vomiting; abdominal cramps; enlarged liver; reduced function of the liver, kidneys and lungs; and dizziness.
